Installing Windows XP with SATA controller (without driver floppy)

If your system only has a SATA controller, the Windows XP setup may be unable to detect your disk drives. It is possible to add a driver floppy disk by using F6 during the loading of the setup. However, if you have a modern system, it may have no floppy drive.

To still be able to install windows, you can try the following:

  • Install nLite (http://www.nliteos.com/download.html)
  • Copy the contents of the XP disk to your hard drive (e.g. C:\winxpsetup)
  • Place the driver in some folder on your hard disk (e.g. C:\drivers)
  • Start nLite and specify the location of the windows XP setup files
  • Select Integrate -> Drivers
  • Select Create -> Bootable ISO (or skip this if you want to burn directly using nLite)
  • Click next
  • Insert the drivers (as textmode drivers)
  • Burn the CD with the driver or make an ISO to burn with another tool

If you boot the CD, setup should now be able to detect your hard drive.

Visio drawing to powerpoint

If you want to convert a Visio drawing to a Powerpoint drawing that you can edit in Powerpoint directly (without OLE, thus without having a Visio object embeded), do the following:

  • Select the drawing in Visio and paste it in Powerpoint
  • Right click the drawing pasted in Powerpoint and choose Grouping –> Ungroup (you may have to do this more than once)
  • Now the drawing consists of Powerpoint objects only.
